At 10:32 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, the Iowa City Fire Department responded to a report of a kitchen fire at 1102 Hollywood Boulevard, Unit 2.
The first unit arrived on scene four minutes after notification and reported a working fire with smoke coming from two sides of the structure. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished by fire department personnel. One civilian suffered minor injuries and was examined by ambulance staff but declined to seek hospital care. Fire damage was contained to the kitchen of the fire apartment, however smoke damage extended to a second apartment.
The Red Cross provided assistance to families in two apartments. Outside agency support and assistance was provided by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service and the Red Cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Department.
