On Monday, April 27, 2020, Governor Kim Reynolds extended the State Public Health Emergency Declaration for Iowa City and Johnson County until Friday, May 15, 2020. Johnson County is currently one of 22 counties which the Governor has included in the extended closure.

The closure of City facilities to the public, including City Hall and recreation centers, has been extended indefinitely, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

On March 17, 2020, the Governor first declared a State Public Health Emergency due to COVID-19, and has since extended the emergency several times.

In accordance with the Governor's orders, and following Iowa Department of Public Health mitigation guidelines, the City has extended the following facilities closures that began in March:

Update: City offers cloth masks to transit riders who need them

The City would like to thank all transit users who have been wearing cloth masks when riding buses the past few weeks.

In order to further our goal of keeping drivers and passengers safe, and to follow the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention's recommendation that cloth masks should be used where social distancing is not always possible, the City has collected roughly 175 cloth masks that transit users can have for free if they do not already have one.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the opening day of the Iowa City Farmers Market has been delayed until at least July 4, 2020. The Iowa City Farmers Market is partnering with Field to Family to offer a contact-free farmers market beginning in May due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Providing a connection to locally grown foods by offering a contact-free market will ensure safety continues to be a priority. The first curbside distribution day will be held Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Parks and Recreation Department has announced the following updates regarding its facilities and programs.

The Iowa City Farmers Market start will be delayed until at least Saturday, July 4, 2020. Shelter and facility rentals and permits are canceled through end of May. The Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department is implementing a temporary one-way route on the trail at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area. The clockwise temporary one-way route is for all bikers, walkers, runners, and hikers and will be in effect until social distancing guidelines are lifted.

Weather permitting, beginning on Monday, April 20, 2020, northbound Clinton Street will be closed to traffic between Burlington Street and Washington Street. Access to the Capitol Street parking ramp will be maintained all times. This closure is necessary to facilitate street pavement repair work in the area. It is anticipated that Clinton Street will be re-open to normal traffic on Thursday, April 23.
