The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a building fire 2414 Freedom Court at 5:35 a.m. on Thursday, November 12.  The first unit arrived on scene and reported a working fire in a commercial building.   

Fire crews made an interior fire attack, finding fire in a shop area and in the building’s attic space.  The fire was brought under control within two hours of arrival.

Sixteen fire personnel responded to the initial alarm and off-duty fire personnel were recalled to assist.  Outside agency support and assistance was provided by Coralville Fire Department, Hills Fire Department, Tiffin Fire Department, Solon Fire Department, Iowa City Police Department, Iowa City Public Works, Johnson County Ambulance Service and MidAmerican Energy.   

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.  The building sustained significant fire damage, and moderate water and smoke damage.  A loss estimate is not yet available.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Department.
