The Iowa City Area Chinese Association (ICACA) will host the 2023 Lunar New Year Gala from 4-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023. The event will take place at The Englert Theatre, 221 W. Washington St.

Activities will include music and dance performances ranging from traditional Chinese drum performances to modern K-pop dance featuring the ICACA, University of Iowa Chinese program, and University of Iowa School of Music. The event will also feature speeches on the Lunar New Year.

Themes include life in the United States, uniting against the impacts of typhoons, and taking control of your life in the face of catastrophe.

The event is funded by the City of Iowa City's 2022 Racial Equity and Social Justice grant allocation.

How to participate

Tickets are on sale now at The Englert box office; $10 for adults and $8 for seniors. Anyone 18 years old and younger, as well as students with a valid college ID, will be admitted for free.
