The City of Iowa City has hired a new Deputy City Manager, Redmond Jones II, to fill the role previously held by Ashley Monroe. Jones will begin employment with Iowa City on Monday, Sept. 20, 2021. 

Jones most recently served as the City Administrator at the City of West Branch, where he worked since 2017. Prior to his tenure in West Branch, Jones held the position of City Manager at the City of Groveland, Florida. His prior work as Assistant to the City Administrator/Affirmative Action Officer for the City of Davenport also provided key opportunities for Jones to hone his skills in economic development, contract negotiations, and crisis management.

Jones brings with him vast experience as a leader in local government, including management, project coordination, strategic planning, sustainability and green innovation, human rights, equity and inclusion, human resources, and budget analysis.

Jones received his master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas. His undergraduate studies included majoring in law enforcement. He also attended the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government Senior Executives in State and Local Government program, focusing on the following skills: Leadership, negotiations, public/private partnerships, cooperative governance, human resources, behavioral decision making, globalization, and microeconomics.
