City to host virtual open house to present plans for American Legion Road improvements

A formal presentation will begin at 6 p.m. The contractor, design consultant, and City staff will be available to answer questions following the presentation.

The project includes the reconstruction of American Legion Road from Scott Boulevard to Taft Avenue. Presenters will discuss the planned improvements, construction phasing, traffic impacts, and the anticipated schedule.

As spring flowers continue to bloom across the City, our Parks and Recreation Department reminds residents that there is a very important reason why Parks staff don't spray to remove dandelions.

Though many may remove the bright yellow flower, the City does not spray for dandelions because they are vital food source for pollinators likes bees. More pollinators mean more beautiful flowers and other plants in our parks and gardens!

North Linn Street, from East Market Street to East Bloomington Street, will be closed to traffic to allow for an outdoor, socially distanced seating area in Iowa City's Northside.

The closure will last from April until Oct. 31, 2021. The closure provides for multiple outdoor seating options to help customers safely enjoy and support nearby restaurants during the pandemic.

Iowa City has once again been named a 2020 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management.

The Arbor Day Foundation is a million-member nonprofit conservation and education organization with the mission to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees.

Iowa City achieved its 41st Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program's four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation....

Update : The reported missing teen Zane Ormsby has been found and is safe. The Iowa City Police Department would like to thank everyone who helped.

The Iowa City Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing juvenile.

The missing teen, 16-year-old Zane Ormsby, was last known to be in the 900 Block of Willow Street in Iowa City on Friday, April 9, 2021, at approximately noon. He is believed to be on foot. He is 5’11", 150 lbs., and was reported to be wearing dark jeans, a dark t-shirt, and a black hoodie sweatshirt.

An Environmentally Responsible Management certification has been earned by the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department from the Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA.) This achievement is a credit to the parks and forestry staff who have established environmental best practices throughout three outdoor sports facilities, Iowa City Kickers Soccer Complex, Napoleon Softball Complex, and Mercer Park ball diamonds.
