The City of Iowa City's proposed FY2024 Budget and FY2023-2025 Financial Plan is now available to review by visiting the Finance webpage .

A copy of the proposed budget is on file for public examination in the office of the City Clerk, City Hall, Iowa City.

The City Council has scheduled the following work sessions to discuss the City’s Fiscal Year 2024 proposed budget:

With the first major snowfall of winter ending at about noon Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, residents should be prepared to clear sidewalks of snow and ice.

Sidewalks in Iowa City must be cleared within 24-hours of a one-inch or greater snowfall, or after any accumulation of ice has ended, for sidewalks to be used safely by pedestrians. Due to the holiday schedule, enforcement is expected to begin Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022.

Property owners who do not remove snow and ice in this timeframe may be subject to fines.

Iowa City curbside customers can bring natural, unflocked holiday trees to the curb for collection at 7 a.m. on your normal pickup day. Remove all decorations first and do not place your tree in a plastic bag. For more information, visit www.icgov.org/compost .

Curbside compost pickup suspended Thursday and Friday due to snowstorm

The curbside collection of compost has been suspended Thursday, Dec. 22, and Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, due to the forecasted winter storm slated to hit the area.

Trash and Recycling collection to continue as scheduled

The cancellation of compost collection means crews will be able to collect higher volume curbside items like garbage and recycling quicker.

Normal curbside operations will resume Monday, Dec 26, 2022. Please have carts to the curb by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.

City to test water supply following Marengo explosion; contaminants unlikely to be found

In response to last week's C6-Zero facility explosion in Marengo, the City of Iowa City wishes to assure the public there is no anticipated impact to the City's water supply.

The Water Division has been in contact with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources since Friday, Dec. 16. IDNR staff provided information to the City indicating that waters contaminated due to the explosion had been contained to a stormwater basin near the C6-Zero facility in Marengo.

Iowa City's annual year-end financial report, which provides information on actual income, incurred expenses, and financial position through the end of fiscal year 2022, is now available at icgov.org/budget . Compilation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) is required by the Iowa Code.

The 150-page report will be reviewed by the City Council and submitted to the City's bondholders.

A snowstorm is slated to hit Iowa City this week, with the potential to bring large amounts of snowfall to the area.

The City is urging all residents to park their cars off-street so plows can efficiently clear roads of snow. If off-street parking is not available, residents should consider alternative parking arrangements. Following the investigation into the Dec. 12, 2022, armed robbery near West Benton Street and Oaknoll Court, Iowa City Police have identified Dewayne K. Corely-Jones, 30, as a suspect in the case. Corely-Jones was captured in Illinois last week and upon his return to Iowa will face the following charges:
