The following roads will be closed to thru traffic while City crews remove tree debris:

From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020, Rochester Avenue from 1st to 7th avenues will be closed to thru traffic. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2020, Court Street from 1st Avenue to Scott Boulevard will be closed to thru traffic.

These closures will speed up the clearing process, and help keep crews safe.

Work on that section of Rochester should conclude by 4 p.m. Saturday, while work on that section of Court Street could finish by end...

Iowa City’s preliminary quarterly finance report for the quarter that ended June 30, 2020 is now available at www.icgov.org/budget . This report provides information on the City’s fund balances, revenues, and expenditures compared to budgeted amounts and budget variances.

The quarterly finance report is required by the City Council’s Financial and Fiscal Policies.

Effective Thursday, August 20, 2020 through Friday, August 21, 2020 the Court Hill route will detour due to storm damage cleanup operations closing Friendship Street between Court Street and 1st Avenue. The Iowa City Human Rights Commission is seeking applicants to fill an unexpired term, plus a three-year term upon appointment, with the term ending December 31, 2023. Service is on a volunteer basis and the group meets monthly.

Duties of the Commission involve educating the public on civil and human rights, including planning programs and activities to eliminate unlawful discrimination. The Commission also makes recommendations to the City Council for Social Justice and Racial Equity Grant funding, as well as for additional local legislation as it relates to discrimination....

A socially distanced meet and greet for the three Police Chief finalists has been set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24, 2020, on the lawn of Mercer Park between the gym and the playground.

Face coverings and social distancing will be required to participate in this event due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the City's face covering ordinance. The City will provide masks at no charge to participants who do not have one.
