Dubuque Street will temporarily convert to a one-way road, with two lanes of outbound traffic, after home Hawkeye Football games to accommodate heavy traffic leaving Iowa City.

Post-game, Dubuque Street will only allow northbound, one-way traffic between Foster and Park Roads. There will be no south-bound traffic between Foster Road and Park Road during this time. Drivers should instead use Highway 1/Dodge Street (Exit 246) to access Iowa City from I-80. Applicants sought for two vacancies on Iowa City Human Rights Commission

The Iowa City Human Rights Commission is seeking applicants to fill two vacancies on the Commission. Both are full terms that will run through Jan. 1, 2020. Service is on a volunteer basis. The group meets monthly.

Duties of the Commission involve educating the public on civil and human rights, including planning programs and activities to eliminate unlawful discrimination. The Commission also makes recommendations to the City Council for Social Justice and Racial Equity Grant funding, as well as for additional local legislation as it relates to discrimination.

PAAC awards funds to five local public art projects

The Iowa City Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC) has announced awards of $5,800 for five public art projects through its Matching Grant Project, which matches funds up to $2,000 for local visual, audio, or performance-based art. Proposals are submitted by artists, and members of PAAC make final award selections.

Volunteers sought to help persons with disabilities vote on Election Day

Persons with disabilities will now have new ways to get out and vote in the Nov. 8, 2016 national elections.

Because transportation to polling sites is a significant barrier to participation, Iowans with Disabilities in Action (ID Action) has offered a grant that will help provide voters with disabilities an Election Day pass for a ride to the polls on a SEATS bus. Riders must be pre-qualified, and passes may be obtained at local nonprofit service agencies. Iowa City and Coralville municipal buses will also offer free rides all day on Nov. 8 to people with disabilities.

Temporary stop signs to be used while new traffic signal is installed at Washington and Clinton intersection

Crews will be installing a new traffic signal at the intersection of Washington and Clinton Streets on Friday, Aug. 26, 2016.

Drivers will notice temporary stop signs at the intersection as the new traffic signal lights are installed. Crews expect to begin work at 9 a.m. and to be finished by 3 p.m.

The traffic signal installation is part of ongoing work on Washington Street as part of a larger Downtown and Pedestrian Mall Streetscape Plan. The project will give Washington Street a fresh, updated look while also updating aging underground infrastructure.

City of Iowa City administrative offices at City Hall, 410 E. Washington Street, will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016 for the Labor Day holiday. As work continues on the First Avenue Grade Separation Project, residents are advised that starting Wednesday, August 24, parking will no longer be allowed on the north side of Bradford Drive between First Avenue and William Street. This restriction is to alleviate traffic congestion and improve safety for motorists and pedestrians near South East Junior High.

Park Road has completely reopened to traffic.

Crews are still working in the area, so drivers should be cautious and can expect some delays especially where Park Road and Dubuque Street meet.

Park Road between Riverside Drive and the Upper City Park exit closed in mid-July for continued work on the Iowa City Gateway Project, a flood mitigation effort that will elevate Dubuque Street while also raising and replacing the Park Road Bridge.

Dodge Street will reduce to one lane for tree removal

Dodge Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic between Davenport and Bloomington Streets on Thurs. Aug. 25, 2016 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for tree removal.

Crews will be taking out an American Elm at the intersection of Dodge and Bloomington Streets. The tree has sustained damage from two separate storms this year and will need to be removed to ensure the public's health, safety and welfare.

Drivers should allow extra travel time as delays are possible.
