The VITA program is designed to provide free tax assistance at community locations to individuals who cannot afford professional tax help. Volunteers assist people with simple tax returns. You must bring a copy of your 2013 Federal and Iowa income tax returns if you have filed those tax returns. You must also bring any pertinent interest and withholding statements and all receipts to document deductions you claim. You CANNOT use this service if: You are single or married and your gross income exceeds $53000; You are self-employed; You have sold securities (stocks and bonds) in 2014; You have earned income from other states - i.e. non-Iowa sources of income; You are a non-resident of the United States.
