On Wednesday, May 8, 2019, Iowa City Police responded to South East Jr. High School at 2501 Bradford Drive for the report of knives found in the possession of a student by school staff. As a result of this ongoing investigation, one juvenile has been charged with Carrying Weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor, and released to parents.

The investigating officers determined that due to the discovery by school staff, there was no known credible threat to staff or students.

This incident remains under investigation.

As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
