The City of Iowa City will sponsor a mobile household hazardous waste collection event from 8 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 in the parking lot of the East Side Recycling Center, 2401 Scott Blvd SE. Area residents who are served by the Iowa City Landfill, including Iowa City and other Johnson County communities, rural Johnson County, Kalona and Riverside, may bring in one box of household hazardous waste per household for disposal. There is no cost to participate.
Latex paint will not be accepted at this collection. For a complete list of items that can be dropped off, visit icgov.org/hazardouswaste. Residents who have motor oil to recycle are reminded that oil may be dropped off without an appointment at either of the City's two oil recycling sheds: East Side Recycling Center, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days per week, or the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center at 3900 Hebl Avenue, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
This event is for households only. Businesses and non-profits, as well as residents with more than one box of household hazardous waste, should call 319-356-5185 to schedule an appointment for disposal at the Iowa City Landfill’s permanent household hazardous waste collection facility.
