City seeks emerging artist for bus stop public art project

The Iowa City Public Art Advisory Committee and the South District Neighborhood Association are issuing a call for emerging artists to design, fabricate, and install a new bus stop bench along Highway 6 East, just east of Heinz Road.

The emerging artist will lead the project with assistance from a Project Mentor, and will also include neighborhood feedback into the bench design. The project will be designed, built, and installed by Fall 2023.

The City of Iowa City is pleased to announce the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has classified the City a Class 6 in the agency's Community Rating System (CRS) for floodplain management.

The CRS is a voluntary federal incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management practices that exceed the minimum requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). With the first snowfall of 2023 ending around noon on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, residents should be prepared to clear sidewalks of snow and ice.

Sidewalks in Iowa City must be cleared within 24 hours of a one-inch or greater snowfall, or after any accumulation of ice has ended, for sidewalks to be used safely by pedestrians. Property owners who do not remove snow and ice in this timeframe may be subject to fines.

Insulation grant for Iowa City residents available

Iowa City is now offering a grant for income-qualified homeowners that covers the full cost of increasing the amount of insulation in their homes. All the costs are covered by the City directly.

Grant eligibility

Income limits to qualify for Iowa City homeowners are as follows:

One-person household: $61,050 Two-person household: $69,800 Three-person household: $78,500 Four-person household: $87,200 Five-person household: $94,200

The City of Iowa City's Office of Equity and Human Rights is hosting a complimentary fair housing training on service and emotional support animals under the Fair Housing Act and Americans with Disabilities Act.
