Iowa City is sending summer out with a bang this Friday, Sept. 18, when the last Friday Night Concert Series of the year is held in combination with a Linn Street Block Party, making for one final festive blast before the chapter is closed on the Summer of 2015.
For this concert, which is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m., the stage will be relocated from the Ped Mall to the intersection of Linn and Washington Streets, facing north. Reggae is the musical genre of the night, featuring Rude Punch, a rock-reggae band from the Quad Cities who will take the stage from 6 to 7:30 p.m., followed by Black Uhuru, a Grammy Award-winning roots reggae group from Jamaica who will perform from 8 to 10 p.m. The Iowa City Yacht Club and Gabe’s will offer additional entertainment after the show is over. There will be no charge for any of the musical events.
To accommodate the event, Linn Street will be closed between Washington Street and Iowa Avenue. Barricades will be placed at the intersections of Washington and Linn Streets, and Iowa Avenue and Linn Street. In addition, three alleys will be closed to traffic during the event: the alley at Dubuque and Gilbert Streets, as well as those adjacent to Studio 13 and the Senior Center. These closures will not impact any City transit routes.
Those who are interested in sitting during the show are reminded to bring lawn chairs.
