Studies show that four out of five child safety seats may be installed or used incorrectly. To ensure that your child is protected, have your car seat inspected by a certified technician. Safe Kids Johnson County, in partnership with the Iowa City Fire Department, will offer a free child safety seat check from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Fire Station #4, located at 2008 N. Dubuque Road in Iowa City.

A trained technician will provide education and assistance on proper safety seat installation, and will also answer questions and check for recalls. Parents, grandparents, childcare providers, and others who travel with children in the car are invited to bring their vehicle, child and child safety seat to the event. Appointments are not required, but may be made by calling Mercy On Call at 319-358-2767 or by visiting www.MercyIowaCity.org.

For more information on the child safety seat checks, visit the Safe Kids Johnson County (IA) page on Facebook or contact Fire Chief John Grier at 319-356-5256 or john-grier@iowa-city.org. Additional information on child safety is available at www.safekids.org.
