The City of Iowa City will provide free parking and shuttle services Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016 during the Telenet UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup and the Northside Oktoberfest. Limited, on-site cyclo-cross parking at the Johnson County Fairgrounds can be purchased for $10.
Oktoberfest will run from 12 to 3 p.m. in the Northside Marketplace (200-400 blocks of Market Street and 100-300 blocks of Linn Street) and includes craft beer from more than 50 breweries, beer games and local food favorites. This year’s Oktoberfest ticket includes a free pass to the Cyclo-Cross World Cup, also happening Saturday.
Cyclo-Cross is a tough terrain, off-road cycling sport where athletes often hop on and off of their bikes and carry them through various obstacles. Iowa City and Las Vegas are the only two North American cities to host 2016 World Cup races. The competition will be broadcast to an estimated 8 million people in more than 35 countries.
Professional cyclists will compete at 3:30 and 5 p.m., Saturday at the Johnson County Fairgrounds. Spectators can enjoy a beer garden, tasty food and live entertainment.Parking locations and shuttle stops
Limited, on-site parking at the fairgrounds must be purchased for $10 either at the fairgrounds or in advance from the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, 900 1st Ave, Coralville.
Free ramp parking will be available downtown all day Saturday with complementary shuttles running from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. between cyclo-cross, Oktoberfest and three downtown parking ramps. Five shuttles will run continuously during the event and are estimated to arrive every 7 minutes or so.
Shuttle stop stops include Oktoberfest (Gilbert and Market Streets), Tower Place Parking Ramp (Gilbert St., just south of Iowa Ave.), Dubuque Street Parking Ramp (intersection of Burlington and Dubuque St.), Capitol Street Parking Ramp (intersection of Burlington and Capitol Streets.) and the Cyclo-Cross World Cup series (Johnson County Fairgrounds). Event schedule and tickets
The Telenet UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup will combine with the annual Volkswagen Jingle Cross Cyclo-Cross Festival, creating a four-day cyclo-cross celebration. All events will be held Sept. 22-25, 2016, including Thursday’s Opening Ceremony at the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area featuring fireworks, live music and a kid’s bicycle ride. Tickets are required for the Saturday World Cup races and Oktoberfest. Race tickets can be purchased at all Johnson County MidWestOne Bank locations , several local bike shops and on-site at the fairgrounds.
