The section of First Avenue between Bradford Drive and Mall Drive that was temporarily closed for construction has been re-opened to traffic.
Traffic is now being diverted to a temporary roadway, which will remain in use for the duration of the First Avenue Grade Separation Project, expected to be completed in Fall 2016. The temporary roadway runs from Bradford Drive to Mall Drive and is adjacent to the permanent roadway. There are sidewalks along the temporary roadway for pedestrian and bicycle traffic. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling through construction areas.
With the detour road open, the First Avenue Grade Separation Project will begin stage 3. A closure of Mall Drive at its intersection with First Avenue is expected in early December 2015. During this closure, access to Mall Drive will be available via Lower Muscatine Road. Access to businesses along Mall Drive from Lower Muscatine Road will be maintained throughout all phases of construction.
