At 8:24 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, the Iowa City Fire Department responded to a building fire at 915 S. Seventh Avenue in Iowa City. The first arriving unit reported smoke showing from the roof of a one and one-half story residential structure.

The occupants had safely exited the structure prior to fire department arrival. Arriving crews found smoke throughout the house and fire on the second floor. The fire was brought under control within 22 minutes.

Eighteen firefighters responded to the initial alarm. Off-duty Iowa City firefighters were called back to assist. Fire departments from Hills, Coralville, Solon and West Branch assisted at the scene and at Iowa City fire stations. Outside agency support and assistance were provided by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, and Mid-American Energy.

No injuries were reported. The building sustained significant damage. A loss estimate is not yet available. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Department.
