Governor requires masks at indoor gatherings of 25 or more; continues COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Declaration

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, the Governor updates the State's Public Health Emergency Declaration, extending all in-place health mitigation efforts through Nov. 30, 2020.

The latest declaration also added more mitigation efforts, including:

Requiring masks at all indoor gatherings of 25 people or more and all outdoor events of 100 people or more. Requiring masks for employees and customers at businesses like salons, barbershops, massage therapy establishments, tattoo parlors, and other personal service businesses. The Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department has been awarded a grant of $90,500 from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) program. This is the 12th REAP grant Iowa City Parks and Recreation has recently received.

REAP invests in projects that enhance and protect Iowa’s natural and cultural resources. In the program, 15% of REAP is set aside for grants to cities, while 20% is set aside for county conservation boards for projects that help establish natural areas, and encouraging outdoor recreation and resource management.

Iowa City Police respond to shots fired near Wetherby Park

On Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020, at approximately 12:55 p.m., Iowa City Police responded to Wetherby Park, 2400 Taylor Drive, following a report of shots being fired. Witnesses reported that two vehicles approached each other, a shot was fired, then the vehicles left at a high rate of speed immediately after the shooting. One vehicle was described as a lighter gold 1990s SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Suburban. The other vehicle was described as a black or dark-colored, newer SUV. There were no reports of injuries or additional information available at that time.

Animal Services seeks assistance identifying dog’s owner following bite

On Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020, Iowa City Animal Services received notification of a person who was bitten by a dog.

According to the information provided, the bite occurred around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020, near Court Hill Park, just south of the intersection of East Court and Westminster. The victim was bitten while attempting to breakup a fight between their leashed dog and a gold lab-type dog that was loose. The loose dog was not with an owner at the time of the incident. The dog has a full length tail, droopy ears, thicker coat, and was not wearing a collar.

Note: The Iowa City Public Library's Bookmobile service has been temporarily ended due to the rise in COVID-19 cases. The City is providing residents with this update after highlighting the Bookmobile's services in the Sustainability newsletter earlier today.

The Iowa City Public Library will scale back current services due to increasing COVID-19 infections in Johnson County. Community safety continues to be the Library priority.
