The City of Iowa City is now accepting applications for Firefighters! Those who apply have the chance to work in the Iowa City Fire Department, which has been protecting Iowa City residents for 150 years.

Interested applicants can visit www.icgov.org/joinICFD for more information and to apply online. The application deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022.

Beginning Wednesday, Oct,, 19, 2022, the 5 Lower Muscatine bus will detour outbound turning left from Lower Muscatine road onto Highway 1 then turning right from Highway 1 onto Lakeside Drive. Outbound stops at Fairmeadows Blvd (stop 7215) and at The Quarters (stop 7216) will not be serviced. Inbound Lower Muscatine route is normal. Passengers missing affected stops can still get on and off at alternative stops, The Quarters inbound (Stop7217) and Hollywood Blvd and Fairmeadows (stop 8232).

This change is expected to last until Monday, Oct. 31, weather dependent.

Iowa City Transit will offer free rides on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

“Our goal is to remove transportation as a barrier, and help people get to the polls and exercise their right to vote,” Transportation Services Director Darian Nagle-Gamm said. “We never want transportation to be a reason why someone didn’t vote."

Rides will be free to everyone all day. No proof of voter registration or destination is required to ride for free....
