The little ghosts and goblins who attend this year’s Tot Monster Mash will have a special surprise in store -- a car that’s also in costume!

In addition to carnival games, crafts, tot toys, inflatables, story time, and other fun activities, City of Iowa City Parks and Recreation staff have recently been notified that the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile -- a car disguised as a giant hot dog -- will also make an appearance at the party.

City Council schedules public hearing for South District Plan

The City Council has scheduled a public hearing on Tuesday, Oct. 20 to discuss the Planning and Zoning Commission’s recommended draft of the South District Plan, which will be used by City of Iowa City planners to guide future development and investment in the area. The hearing will be scheduled as part of the City Council meeting, beginning at 7 p.m. in Emma Harvat Hall in City Hall, 410 E. Washington Street. Iowa City residents are invited to participate to comment or ask questions about the proposed plan.

From 7 to 9 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month through April 5, 2016, families can participate in a drumming session with the Yahoo Drummers at the Robert A. Construction begins on Willow Creek and Kiwanis Parks projects

Construction is expected to get underway this week for improvements to Willow Creek Park and Kiwanis Park on the City’s southwest side. Plans call for trail-paving and installation of new backstops, restrooms, and subdrain. The two parks adjoin one another off Benton Street: Willow Creek at 1117 Teg Drive, and Kiwanis Park at the intersection of Aber Avenue and Teg Drive. Residents and other drivers in the area should expect construction traffic in the park areas, as well as on Abbey Lane.
