The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a building fire at 623 E. College Street at 5:17 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The first unit arrived on scene three minutes after receiving the alarm and reported a working fire with smoke coming from the attic.
The occupants of the building had safely exited the structure prior to the fire department’s arrival. Fire crews made multiple efforts to attack the fire from the interior, but were eventually forced to vacate the building and fight the fire from the exterior using elevated hose streams.
