Moving and can’t take all your stuff? The City of Iowa City encourages you to donate furniture, clothing, housewares, books and other materials you no longer need, rather than sending still-usable items to the Landfill.

To access a list of area nonprofits, agencies, and businesses that will accept donations, as well as buy or consign items, see the recently updated Iowa City Area Resale and Consignment Directory link at

If you’re moving at the end of July, consider donating to the City of Iowa City’s Rummage in the Ramp, a community-wide garage sale that accepts donations of items you no longer need and sells them back to the public at low prices. The sale not only keeps tons of items out of the Landfill, but also helps raise funds for the local nonprofits that staff the 10-day event.

This year marks the 10th anniversary for Rummage in the Ramp. The big event is scheduled from July 23 through August 3 at Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp, located in the 400-block of Washington Street, across from City Hall. Watch for updates about the event and about Rummage ReDux, an upcycling art contest, on the web page at
