The deadline for nominations for the 14th Annual Youth Awards, which recognize young people’s contributions to human rights efforts, is quickly approaching.

The City of Iowa City Human Rights Commission is seeking nominations for its Annual Youth Awards to recognize the contributions of youth who have promoted and/or contributed to human rights causes locally or globally. Nominations will be considered for work that has taken place since June 2016.

Youth Award nomination forms are available at icgov.org/humanrightsyouthawards. The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, April 21, 2017. Nominations may also be emailed to humanrights@iowa-city.org or faxed to 319-887-6213.

The Iowa City Human Rights Commission is also asking for nominations for the Youth Ally Award. This award recognizes an adult who has inspired and empowered local youth to become involved in human rights activities and initiatives either locally or abroad.Youth Ally Award nomination forms are available at icgov.org/humanrightsyouthawards. The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, April 21. Nominations may also be e-mailed to humanrights@iowa-city.org or faxed to 319-887-6213.

The Youth Awards Program recognizing recipients will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at the Englert Theatre, 221 E. Washington Street. At the program, Iowa City Mayor Jim Throgmorton will deliver brief remarks, and recipients will be presented with a Certificate of Appreciation.
