Court Street between Third and Fourth avenues, Rochester Avenue between First and Seventh avenues, and Muscatine Avenue from Second to Third avenues have reopened after crews were able to clean the site of damage caused by the Aug. 10 storm.

There are still several major roads closed due to storm debris, as well as some side streets:

  • Muscatine Avenue closed between Dearborn Street and Seventh Avenue
  • Summit Street closed between Court and Bowery streets
  • Dodge Street closed between Burlington and Bowery streets

This sites could take days to clear due to the large amount of damage, and multiple trees being caught in power lines. The City is not able to clear them until MidAmerican Energy can ensure that the area is safe for cleanup crews.

MidAmerican has restored power to many in Iowa City over the past 24 hours, but there is still an estimated 10,000 customers without power. Those customers should plan for multiple days without power.

More information about power outages can be found at MidAmerican's Outage Watch webpage

Residents are urged to continue to practice COVID-19 procedures such as wearing face coverings and maintaining social distance at all times during the storm cleanup process.

Please stay away from downed power lines and storm damage, as these areas are unsafe for vehicular and pedestrian travel.
