The City will host two informational meetings to go over the design for the Pedestrian Mall Improvements Project.
The public open house will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2017 at the Sheraton Hotel, 210 S. Dubuque Street. A presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a short question and answer session to follow. A meeting for downtown businesses and property owners will also take place from 2 to 4 p.m., on Friday, same place, same format.
The Pedestrian Mall Improvements Project is part of the larger Downtown and Pedestrian Mall Streetscape Plan. The goal of the work is to improve accessibility, infrastructure and the look and feel of the area. Upgrades will include new amenities like lighting, planting and accents that celebrate Iowa City’s uniqueness and cultural footprint in the area.
The project is currently in the design stage and construction is anticipated to begin in 2018.
