Those interested in applying for the City’s Social Justice and Racial Equity Grant for FY 2020 can attend one of two informational meetings being offered on Monday, November 18, 2019.
Meeting times are noon to 1:15 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., both in Emma Harvat Hall at City Hall, 410 E. Washington St.
The meetings will provide an opportunity to learn about the purpose, process, and timeline for the grant. Participants will also receive useful tips on filling out the application. A question and answer session will follow.
The grant program is designed to advance social justice and racial equity in the community. Grants are available to Iowa City-based organizations, both non and for profit, with the purpose of encouraging, empowering, and engaging social justice and racial equity initiatives through programs, activities, or services that help eliminate inequities.
Programs that address one or more of the six priority services -education, building community, housing, criminal justice, health, and employment- will receive preference.
The City Council has approved $75,000 for Fiscal Year 2020, which will be divided among recipients.
The online application will be available at noon on Dec. 2, 2019, through noon on Jan. 3, 2020, at www.icgov.org/SJREgrantapplication.
The Iowa City Human Rights Commission will review all applications and make funding recommendations to the City Council no later than March 31. Funding will be awarded by June 1.
Attendance is not mandatory to apply for the funding, but strongly encouraged. You can RSVP for the meeting online.
