Pick up a paint brush and help local artist Thomas Agran create a mural on the north end of Iowa City.

Agran is collaborating with several businesses and the City of Iowa City to lead a community participatory mural project that will be placed on the south wall of Ace Hardware, 600 North Dodge St. The building, centrally located between the Northside and Goosetown neighborhoods, also hosts NODO, a coffee and sandwich shop.

The project is scheduled to start Friday, June 29 and run through Sunday, July 1, 2018, with work occurring between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily, weather permitting. Paint, brushes, and refreshments will be provided by Ace Hardware and NODO.

The 130 foot long wall will feature a mural illustrating a beloved local story, helping to link the Northside and Goosetown neighborhoods through their shared histories, while also providing participants with a way to get to know their neighbors and celebrate their community.

Agran will prepare the surface of the wall and create the outline for the mural prior to the event. All age groups, with or without artistic skills, are invited to participate. All materials will be provided, but be sure to wear paint clothes!

This project is supported by grants from the City's Public Art Advisory Commission and the Program for Improving Neighborhoods, as well as Lenoch & Cilek Ace Hardware, Benjamin Moore Paints, NODO, and in kind contributions from neighbors.
