Community Connection is a video series that highlights different people and organizations in our community to discuss the issues that are important to our residents. The death of George Floyd has sparked a movement across the nation, with activists taking to the streets demanding justice and influencing long overdue change in our society. Here in Iowa City, the group that’s been leading the Black Lives Matter protests is known as the Iowa Freedom Riders. Raneem Hamad, an organizer with the group, sits down with Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague to discuss how these demonstrations have helped start a conversation and explains the next steps to making meaningful change in Iowa City.
