Due to recent heavy rains in the Iowa River Basin, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has increased its outflow from the Coralville Lake Reservoir from 6,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 10,000 cfs. 

Due to this change, residents may notice increased water levels along the Iowa River. Low lying areas in Iowa City, including some parks and trails, can be impacted at these outflow rates. There is currently no major flooding event expected with this outflow change. 

The City utilizes information from multiple agencies when preparing for and responding to river flood conditions. Helpful information for the public can be found at The National Weather Service website and The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers River Gages website.

Current Closures 

Iowa River Trail at the Highway 6 underpass, located just south of Riverfront Crossings Park, 1101 S. Clinton St. is closed until further notice. The Iowa River Trail connects North Liberty to Iowa City. Within Iowa City, the trail connects the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area to Terrill Mill Park, and City Park to CRANDIC Park. Pedestrians and bicyclists should use an alternate route.

Stay Updated 

City officials will continue to monitor the weather and river elevation forecasts. Trails users should exercise extreme caution when using trails near bodies of water and be aware of the possibility of high water.
