Hunters who are interested in participating in the City’s 2022-2023 deer bow hunt program can apply beginning August 8, 2022. Hunt rules and application forms are available on the City website at icgov.org/Urban-Bow-Hunt or at the Iowa City Police Department, 410 E. Washington Street. The application period will remain open until October 20, 2022.
The City of Iowa City’s 2022-2023 deer bow hunt program season will be held September 17, 2022 through January 10, 2023. The bow hunt is part of the City’s Long-Term Deer Management Plan, which included one year of professional sharpshooting in 2019 and an urban bow hunt in 2020 – 2024.
Hunting is allowed on private property only when conducted by the property owner or those with permission from the owner. Private property owners who wish to provide land for approved hunters to bow hunt upon may contact the City’s Hunt Coordinator Lt. Zach Diersen at 319-356-5276 or email@example.com to inquire.
No bows can be fired within 150 feet of any trail, road, park, school, sidewalk, or right-of-way. Additionally, no bows can be fired within 150 of a home or property line without an owner’s permission.
