Weather permitting, the City of Iowa City will resume leaf collection on Friday, Nov. 27. If the snow cover lingers, the start date will be delayed.

Crews will attempt to make one more round of leaf collection, starting with Zone #6 and proceeding in order. Because collection is dependent upon weather conditions, the City cannot guarantee all routes will be collected. Winter weather could force the suspension of the program for the season.

Leaves can also be disposed of in City of Iowa City yard waste bags. Bags can be placed out for collection on your regular garbage day. Yard waste bags, priced at $1.25 each, are available for purchase at participating Iowa City grocery, hardware and general merchandise stores, and at the Iowa City City Hall Cashier (410 E. Washington St.). For a list of stores, visit Generic paper yard waste bags cannot be substituted for City-branded yard waste bags if you wish for curbside pickup. Refuse, recycling and yard waste will not be collected on Thanksgiving Day. Operations will resume on Friday, when both Thursday and Friday routes will be collected. Residents on these routes should place materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on Friday, although the City cannot determine exactly what time the items will be collected.

Iowa City residents may also take leaves to the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center free of charge. The landfill is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The landfill will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but will be open regular hours on Friday and Saturday.
