The Office of Equity and Human Rights is reissuing a memorandum on Guidance on Dress Codes Admittance Policies and Places of Public Accommodation (August 2016), which explains how dress codes and admittance policies may violate the Human Rights Ordinance if used to deny, limit, or create different terms of admittance based on a protected status, or if it has a disparate impact on people in a protected status without proof of business necessity.

This document will be useful to area restaurants and businesses who have dress codes or admittance polices, and also to community members who believe their rights have been violated and wish to file a complaint of discrimination.
