The "Know Your Rights: Spousal and Partner Abuse Laws and Resources" program has been rescheduled after being cancelled in December due to weather.

The program will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Social Hall in the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, located at 220 S. Gilbert Street.The Iowa City Human Rights Office is hosting the event, which is aimed at informing the public of their rights and available resources regarding spousal and partner abuse.

Iowa City Police officers make robbery arrest

The Iowa City Police Department made an arrest following two recent robberies.

Police arrested 30-year-old Daniel James Crum on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017. He faces two counts of Second Degree Robbery and one count of Fifth Degree Theft and was taken to the Johnson County Jail.

The arrest follows two incidents: The first happened Jan. 24, 2017 at about 12:30 a.m. in the area of Benton Street and Giblin Drive. Iowa River Trail closed for work

The Iowa River Trail will be closed Thursday, Feb. 2 and Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 for work on the trail. City of Iowa City staff from the Streets and Parks Departments will be removing tree debris and invasive species. Signs and barricades will be posted at both ends of the trail.

Iowa City Police arrest man for hate crime

Iowa City Police officers arrested a man for an alleged hate crime.

On Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, officers were dispatched to Old Capitol Mall, 201 S. Clinton St., for a report of a subject threatening others. It was reported to officers that 50-year-old Roy Lane Hudson made comments that were sexual in nature toward the victim.

When those comments were rebuffed by the victim, stating it was against her religion, Hudson reportedly began to threaten her with physical violence and death, with further comments directed toward her religion and nationality.
