The Iowa City Senior Center (ICSC) recently published its March-April 2023 program guide and invites community members to participate in the robust line-up of activities, classes, and events available this spring.

City Council approves maximum property tax levy

Iowa City Council conducted a public hearing at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, where they approved setting the maximum property tax levy for specific levies for the FY2024 budget. The signed resolution can be viewed online .

Celebrate Women's History Month with events in March

The City will be hosting and co-hosting numerous events throughout March to commemorate Women’s History Month. Mayor Bruce Teague proclaimed March 8 as International Women's Day and the month of March as Women's History Month at the Feb. 21, 2023, City Council meeting.

The month will feature book clubs, presentations, crafting projects, and more; all aimed at celebrating the impact women have had on our country.

Iowa City Police investigate Sunday shot fired

At 12:20 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, Iowa City police received a report of a shot fired at 118 S. Clinton St. Nearby officers were on the scene within seconds and collected a shell casing at the scene.

At this time, no injuries have been reported related to this incident. Iowa City Police are continuing to actively investigate this incident.

This annual event recognizes the contributions of youth who have helped to advance human rights causes locally or abroad.

"It's a Matter of Pride" decals available at City Hall

The Office of Equity and Human Rights has complimentary Pride decals now available on a first-come basis. You can pick up a decal at City Hall’s front lobby information desk, 410 E. Washington St., during regular business hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Because of the limited number available, we ask that you take only one per household. The decal is reusable and waterproof, making it perfect for any home, business windows or doors and your vehicle. It’s a Matter of Pride yard signs will be available in early May.

Downtown towing begins at 2 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18 for snow removal

Crews will remove snow in Downtown Iowa City overnight Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, beginning at 2 a.m. Vehicles parked in tow-away zones will be removed.

Towing will impact Prentiss Street to Market Street, Madison Street to Gilbert Street, as well as North Clinton Street from Market Street to Church Street. The parking in these areas are metered spots, which do not permit parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Follow all posted parking signs to prevent your vehicle from being towed.

Vehicles can be moved to a Downtown Parking ramp, or to on-street parking spaces outside of the area....
