Federal law requiring face masks on public transit buses extended to April 18

The Transportation Security Administration announced the extension of its face mask requirement while traveling on any public transit vehicles, including Iowa City Transit, to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. The extension lasts until April 18, 2022.

Face masks must be worn at transit stops, including the transit interchange, boarding the bus, riding, and while disembarking.

City reminds residents to move cars off-street for spring break

As many university students and residents prepare to head out of town for spring break, the City asks travelers to park their cars off of City streets.

Vehicles parked on the street must be moved every 48-hours, so moving off-street is required if you plan to be out of town for more than two days. Moving off-street allows City staff to clean streets, removing winter-related debris as the weather allows.

Last week, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed legislation banning transgender athletes from high school sports, and in some cases, college and elementary school sports throughout the state. This new legislation is one of many anti-trans political moves taking place across the country that directly targets the transgender and nonbinary youth population – a population already at risk.

The Iowa City Council has issued a statement denouncing this harmful legislation and supporting trans athletes in the Iowa City area and beyond:

At its Feb. 15, 2022 meeting, the Iowa City City Council approved a resolution awarding $939,082 to CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank in the form of a State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (SLFRF) grant. The City of Iowa City's Office of Equity and Human Rights is hosting two free fair housing training sessions - introductory and intermediate - in April. The introductory training is presented by the Iowa Civil Rights Commission and the intermediate training is by the Fair Housing Institute, Inc.
