Governor Street bridge to re-open Saturday for UI football traffic

Fans from across the state will be celebrating the kickoff of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes football season with a home game on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019.

The influx of Hawkeye fans mean Iowa City residents should plan ahead when commuting this Saturday.

The Governor Street Bridge will reopen for traffic - but not to pedestrians- by Saturday. Plans are for the bridge to stay open until Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, when it will again close to complete work. The bridge is expected to be fully opened by Friday, Sept. 6, 2019.

City of Iowa City administrative offices at City Hall, 410 E. Washington St., will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, 2019, for the Labor Day holiday.

Solid Waste: Refuse, recycling, and yard waste will be collected on Labor Day. Residents on the Monday route should have their materials at the curb by 7 a.m.

Transit: No bus service.

Airport: The administration office will be closed, but Jet Air (FBO) will be open regular hours.

Animal Care and Adoption Center: Closed.

The Iowa City Farmers Market is excited to host the ninth annual Kids Market (formerly known as Kids Day) at the Farmers Market.

Kids ages 8 to 18 (younger are allowed with an adult present) are invited to participate as a Kid Vendor from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 at the Iowa City Farmers Market, 415 East Washington Street, just across the street from City Hall and north of the Chauncey Swan Ramp.

Rummage in the Ramp sets new records for amount of waste diverted and funds raised

The 13th annual Rummage in the Ramp event diverted more than 32 tons of materials from curbs and dumpsters, setting a new record as more than 800 residents donated their still-usable items.

Rummage in the Ramp is an annual City-sponsored effort that began in 2007 to keep tons of reusable items out of the Iowa City Landfill, while providing items to those who need them when leases changeover at the end of July.
