Mayor's Walk scheduled today in Peninsula area in north Iowa City

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, as Iowa City Mayor Jim Throgmorton will discover today while on his third Mayor's Walk. The walks, which began in April and will run through the summer, give the Mayor an opportunity to meet with Iowa City residents to learn more about the City from the people he serves.

The walk scheduled today (Wednesday, June 29, 2016) will begin at the temporary Transit Hub at Court and S. Dubuque Streets, where the Mayor will ride the 4:15 p.m. Manville Heights bus to the Peninsula area on the north side of the City. From there, the walk will follow...

City of Iowa City announces July 4th holiday schedule

City of Iowa City administrative offices at City Hall, 410 E. Washington Street, will be closed on Monday, July 4, 2016 for the holiday. Other City facilities that will be closed, or changes that will take place to City services and schedules on July 4, are as follows:

Airport: The office will be closed on Monday, but Jet Air will be open from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and 24-hour self-serve fuel will be available.

Animal Care and Adoption Center: Closed Monday.

Kimbell Road and Brown Street are now closed to traffic at Dubuque Street.

The closures are part of the Iowa City Gateway Project , which recently reduced Dubuque Street to one lane in each direction for utility installation between Foster Road and Ronalds Street​. With that work, Kimbell and Brown needed to close where they meet Dubuque Street. They should reopen in mid-September.

Iowa City’s fireworks display will wrap up the annual Summer of the Arts Iowa City Jazz Festival on Sunday, July 3, following the end of the final jazz performance Downtown. The show will get underway sometime between 9:30 and 9:45 p.m. from Hubbard Park at the intersection of Madison Street and Iowa Avenue. Inclement weather may call for flexibility in the start time. Iowa City Animal Center seeks information on dog that bit bicyclist

Iowa City Animal Services is looking for information on a dog that bit a bicyclist near Rita's Ranch Dog Park on Scott Blvd. on Thursday, June 23, 2016. The Animal Center received notice of the incident on Monday, June 27.

According to the information provided, on June 23 at around 8 p.m. near the entrance to the dog park, the victim was bicycling in the area adjoining the park and was approached by two dogs being walked on-leash. Iowa City Gateway Project: Dubuque Street Lane Reduction and Park Road Closure

Dubuque Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction between Foster Road and Ronalds Street, beginning Tuesday, June 28, 2016, weather permitting.

The lane reductions are necessary to install utilities for the Iowa City Gateway Project, and will continue throughout the duration of the reconstruction project. Access to all residences, Terrell Mill Park and Mayflower Residence Hall, will be maintained at all times.

The Iowa City Jazz Festival, a three-day weekend of live jazz that's part of Iowa City's Summer of the Arts series of festivals, brings the spark back to Downtown Iowa City on July 1-3, 2016. Music by national and international jazz artists and up-and-coming performers will be played on four stages throughout the event. Mercer Park playground closed due to flooding

Mercer Park Playground at 2701 Bradford Drive in Iowa City is closed due to flooding, and will remain closed until the water recedes. Fencing is in place to block off the playground. Please do not allow children to access the playground during this time, as the water poses a serious safety risk.
