The City of Iowa City is hosting an open house at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at the Iowa City Public Library to provide feedback and ask questions about potential strategies to address the issue of affordable housing in the community. The Library is located at 123 S. Linn Street in downtown Iowa City.

Party in the Park: August 11 at Mercer Park

Local entertainers Kalimbaman and the Yahoo Drummers will be the featured musicians for the season finale Party in the Park event, scheduled Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Mercer Park, at 2701 Bradford Drive. Festivities are scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with a special appearance by the Eulenspiegel Puppets at 5:30 p.m., prior to the start of Party in the Park.

In addition to live music, there will be games, arts and crafts projects, and frozen treats. This is a no-fee event and is open to the public. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and join other neighbors for the fun!

Bus stops located at Village Road and Brighton Green (stop 7264) and Village Road and Village Green (stop 7265) will be out of service beginning Tues., Aug. 9, 2016 because of road work on Village Green Boulevard.

The outbound Towncrest and Night Towncrest buses will detour using Village Road to Wellington Drive to Scott Boulevard and back to Muscatine Avenue to go inbound to downtown.

Volunteers sought for annual Iowa River Clean-up on Sept. 17

The annual Iowa River Clean-up, where volunteers in canoes and on riverbanks help haul trash out of a 9.5-mile section of the Iowa River from Iowa City to Hills, is looking for help with this year’s event. The 2016 clean-up, scheduled Saturday, Sept. 17, will clear trash and debris from the river and its banks to help protect the integrity of the waterway.

Volunteers will meet at Hills Access, a rural park located adjacent to the Iowa River, one-half mile east of Hills on 520th Street. The schedule is as follows:

Iowa City Gateway: Contingency time added for Dubuque Street rock splitting work

Crews are adding a contingency time to their schedule as they continue to perform underground rock splitting twice per day, Monday – Friday on Dubuque Street.

The plan is to close Dubuque Street for approximately 5 to 15 minutes at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., however as a contingency, crews may close the road at 2 p.m. should the 11 a.m. work need to be delayed. Workers will not stop traffic more than twice per day.

Drivers trying to access Upper City Park and the City Park Pool from Riverside Drive and Park Road will need to use Templin Road for the next few days.
