Transit Notice: Outbound 5 Lower Muscatine bus detour; Fairmeadows (7215), The Quarters (7215) will not be serviced

Beginning Wednesday, Oct,, 19, 2022, the 5 Lower Muscatine bus will detour outbound turning left from Lower Muscatine road onto Highway 1 then turning right from Highway 1 onto Lakeside Drive. Outbound stops at Fairmeadows Blvd (stop 7215) and at The Quarters (stop 7216) will not be serviced. Inbound Lower Muscatine route is normal. Passengers missing affected stops can still get on and off at alternative stops, The Quarters inbound (Stop7217) and Hollywood Blvd and Fairmeadows (stop 8232).

This change is expected to last until Monday, Oct. 31, weather dependent.

Run for the Schools to impact area roads on Sunday, Oct. 23

Run for the Schools, a run benefiting students from the Iowa City Community School District and Regina Catholic Education Center, will take place Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022.

Several roads will close for the half-mile, mile, 5K, and 10K races. Road closures will begin at 4 a.m. and all roads are anticipated to reopen by noon. "No Parking" signs will be posted along the route and vehicles not moved before 3 a.m. will be towed.

The longer runs begin at 9 a.m., with the course beginning at the intersection of East Washington and Gilbert streets, near the Robert A. Lee Recreation...

Take the bus for free on Election Day in Iowa City

Iowa City Transit will offer free rides on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

“Our goal is to remove transportation as a barrier, and help people get to the polls and exercise their right to vote,” Transportation Services Director Darian Nagle-Gamm said. “We never want transportation to be a reason why someone didn’t vote."

Rides will be free to everyone all day. No proof of voter registration or destination is required to ride for free....

We love our City Park Pool!

The City’s Parks & Recreation Department has been working on a Master Plan that will help guide park development and maintenance priorities over the next several years. City Park Pool renovations are currently scheduled for the summer of 2025.

Some of the bigger projects have been pushed to the forefront due to the condition of facilities. One of these projects is the cherished City Park Pool – a pool that has welcomed community members for 73 years!

Iowa City Animal Services investigates dog bite

Iowa City Animal Services is investigating a report of a dog bite. The individual reported being bit around 5:50 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5, on the corner of South Governor and East Burlington streets. The dog was described as a medium sized dog that appeared to be a breed of hunting dog. The dog was accompanied by a couple was described as in their early 30s.

Iowa City Animal Services is looking to locate the owner of the dog for information regarding its rabies vaccination history. If anyone has information about the identity of the owner, they are encouraged to contact Iowa City...
