City staff provided an update on the Washington Streetscape Project on, Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 at Bo-James in Downtown Iowa City.

Last week, crews installed a new traffic signal at the intersection of Washington and Clinton streets. Conduit was installed for electric and telecommunications, irrigation for planters was completed, and sidewalk paving along with planter installation continues within the 100 block of Washington Street. Additionally, paving of the west half of the Washington and Dubuque Street Intersection was completed.

Johnson County Conservation will spend a Sunday afternoon tagging Monarch butterflies before they head south for the winter.

The event will take place on Sunday, September 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the Conservation Education Center in F.W. Kent Park (2048 HWY 6 N.W. Oxford, IA 52322).

Outbound Oakcrest and Night/Weekend Oakcrest will detour due to construction on Oakcrest Street between Sunset Street and George Street, beginning Tuesday, September 6, 2016.

The closure is expected to last until approximately Monday, September 19, 2016. These routes will bypass the work zone by detouring via Koser Avenue from Melrose Avenue to George Street and then resume service on Oakcrest Street.

Iowa City will hold a special festival to celebrate the Monarch butterfly and highlight efforts to increase its declining population.

People will gather for the Iowa City Monarch Festival Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the East Side Recycling Center .

City Council Listening Post set for Sept. 17 at the downtown Farmers Market

The fourth City Council listening post will be held at the Chauncey Swan Farmers Market, 405 E. Washington Street, on Saturday, September 17, from 9:00-11:00 AM.

Two Iowa City Council Members will attend each listening post and those two Council members will report back to the entire Council. Members of the community are encouraged to stop by and meet with Council representatives to discuss any community issue. No formal agenda or presentation is planned.

Due to the traffic changes on Dubuque Street directly after University of Iowa home football games , Iowa City Transit will run a special shuttle service for Saturday Manville Heights customers who need to get to the Peninsula neighborhood area.

Dubuque Street will temporarily convert to a one-way road, with two lanes of outbound traffic, after home Hawkeye Football games to accommodate heavy traffic leaving Iowa City.

Iowa City Police Department Interim Chief Troy Kelsay swore in Jesse Drahos as a Police Officer during a ceremony at Emma J. Harvat Hall on Friday August 26, 2016.
