Iowa City Fire Department responds to building fire at 2614 Indigo Court

At 4:16 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, the Iowa City Fire Department (ICFD) responded to a building fire at 2614 Indigo Court.

The first arriving fire company found the rear of the structure, a duplex, on fire with extension into the attic of units 2608 and 2614 Indigo Court. All occupants were out of the building upon ICFD’s arrival. One occupant of the building was assisted from their residence by a neighbor.

Crews had the fire extinguished and under control in 30 minutes. Sixteen ICFD personnel assisted with fire suppression efforts. The Iowa City Police Department, Johnson...

Road construction notice: North Dubuque Street

Weather permitting, beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 11, pavement repair work will occur on North Dubuque Street between Market Street and Bloomington Street. This work will necessitate lane shifts to accommodate the work, but two-way traffic will be maintained. It is anticipated that the work will be completed by Friday, Aug. 14.

Motorists are to take note of this construction and to allow extra travel time as delays may occur. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling through all construction areas.

Iowa City Fire Department responds to structure fire at 1984 Mackinaw Drive

At 1:49 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, the Iowa City Fire Department (ICFD) responded to a structure fire at 1984 Mackinaw Drive.

The first arriving unit found smoke coming from the roof of the home. Fire crews found the fire to be located in the attic space. The occupants believed that there had been a lightning strike in the area earlier that morning. Smoke in the attic was noticed by passersby in the afternoon and all occupants were able to exit the home safely prior to ICFD arrival.

Iowa City Fire Department responds to structure fire at 330 Hawkins Drive

At 2:16 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, the Iowa City Fire Department (ICFD) responded to a structure fire at the Center for Disabilities and Development at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC).

The first unit to arrive found smoke visible in a top floor hallway. Fire crews found the fire to be primarily located in the insulation just below the roof membrane. A construction crew was in the process of performing hot work to repair various sections of the roof at the time of the fire. All occupants were out of the building at the time of arrival.

Iowa City Animal Control seeks assistance in locating dog that bit bicyclist

At 1:53 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4 Iowa City Animal Control Services received notification of a pedestrian who was bitten by a dog. According to the information provided, at approximately 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, a male subject was on his bicycle when he was passing a woman walking two leashed dogs in the area of the 2000 block of Melrose Avenue. As the cyclist passed the woman walking the dogs, one of the dogs lunged at the cyclist and bit him on his left hamstring.
