City of Iowa City Aquatics Supervisor Matthew Eckhardt is relying on golfers to help raise funds to teach kids the fundamentals of a different sport: swimming. On Friday, Sept. 11, the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department's Aquatics Division will host its second annual Golf Fundraiser to build the swim program’s scholarship fund so that all children who want to learn to swim can do so, regardless of their family’s ability to pay for lessons.

The Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center at 220 S. Gilbert Street will be closed next Monday, Aug. 31, for building maintenance. A device that protects water supplies from contamination will be replaced, requiring all water to the building to be shut down while the work is taking place.
