Another round of snowfall has landed; sidewalks need to be cleared once again

On a positive note, we didn’t receive the higher snowfall totals that we were expecting. But another round of snow wrapped up at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, continuing a lively streak of snowstorms throughout January, and leaving us with plenty to handle.

The City wants to thank all the residents who have been diligently clearing their sidewalks of snow during these snow-filled weeks. We know it's not easy, we also know how challenging it can be. A special thanks to all who take care of their neighbors who need a hand.

Oakland Cemetery closed due to weather conditions

Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City will close to the public Monday, Jan. 25, 2021. The cemetery will reopen to the public after snow from the predicted storm has been cleared and the area is accessible.

Snowfall over the weekend, coupled with foot and vehicle traffic, has produced icy conditions that crews are working to improve prior to the additional snowfall. For your safety, we ask that the public avoid the area until safe access is available. Gates will reopen when the snow from the storm has been removed.

A serious snowstorm is slated to hit much of Iowa, bringing large amounts of snow to Iowa City. Forecasts predict anywhere between six to 12 inches of total accumulation between 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, and the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2020.

The City is urging all residents to park their cars off-street so plows can efficiently clear roads of snow. If off-street parking is not available, residents should consider alternative parking arrangements. For example, vehicles can be moved to a Downtown Parking ramp...

The City of Iowa City has published its latest progress report for the 2020-2021 Strategic Plan.

The City’s Strategic Plan is a goal-setting document that establishes top priorities and initiatives of City Council. The Strategic Plan, developed approximately every two years, is a collaborative effort between Council members and City staff. Initiatives identified in the Plan guide staff actions as they address Council priorities through specific programs, policies, and projects.

Virtual Repair & Upcycle Series starts Jan. 26

The Repair & Upcycle Series (late January through mid-March) is going virtual this year, and will offer digital resources on a wide variety of do it yourself (DIY) and at-home topics. All are welcome to join the waste reduction fun, and there is no cost to participate.

Furry friends are welcome at the next Iowa City Parks and Recreation special event. This paws-itively fun experience will offer residents a free and socially distant, family outing that is sure to entertain.

The Thornberry Dog Sweater Pawty will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021. A socially-distanced dog sweater contest will begin at 2 p.m. and will include three judged categories, Most (P)ugly Sweater, Most Unique Sweater, and Best Friends Costume (human pup combo).
