Armed robbery suspect in custody

Following the investigation into the Dec. 12, 2022, armed robbery near West Benton Street and Oaknoll Court, Iowa City Police have identified Dewayne K. Corely-Jones, 30, as a suspect in the case. Corely-Jones was captured in Illinois last week and upon his return to Iowa will face the following charges:

First-degree robbery First-degree theft Going armed with intent

Investigation into the Coralville incident is ongoing by the Coralville Police Department. Corely-Jones is currently in the custody of the Peoria County, Ill. Sheriff's Office. No other information is available at this...

The Public Art Advisory Committee is seeking feedback on eight potential locations for a future public art project.

Residents are asked to take an online survey and rank eight possible locations for a new public art project in Iowa City. The location with the highest score will be selected. A request for qualifications from artists who wish to be considered for creating the new piece will follow.

Join the Office of Equity and Human Rights on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, from noon-1:30 p.m. for a free virtual program, "Opioids, Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution."

Participants will learn to:

City reaches temporary agreement with H-Bar ownership; nuisance abatement process to continue

On Dec. 12, 2022, the City of Iowa City agreed to a temporary injunction with the owners of H-Bar as part of ongoing efforts to address public safety issues at the establishment. The temporary injunction will cover operations at H-Bar until a permanent resolution can be reached.

Under the temporary injunction, H-Bar will:

Close at 2 a.m. No customers may be present after that time. Allow Iowa City police officers to enter H-Bar at anytime H-bar is open to the public to perform community caretaking functions.

Update: Arrest made following incident at Court Street Parking Ramp

Iowa City Police have made an arrest following Monday's incident at the Court Street Parking Ramp. Carldale D. Hunter, 33, faces the following charges:

Second-degree kidnapping Possession of a firearm by a felon Going armed with intent Domestic abuse while displaying a weapon Child endangerment

At approximately 12:35 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, Iowa City Police responded to an armed robbery in the area of West Benton Street and Oaknoll Court. The victim reported she had been robbed at knifepoint and her vehicle had been stolen.

A description of a person of interest in the robbery and circumstances of the incident were similar to an armed robbery and kidnapping reported Monday morning to the Coralville Police Department.

The community is asked to exercise caution, particularly when entering and exiting their vehicles. Whenever possible, park in public and well-lit places...

Iowa City Police respond to incident at Court Street Parking Ramp

At approximately 2 p.m., Iowa City Police responded to a welfare check at the Court Street Parking Ramp bus depot. Information received by police indicated a man was possibly armed and that a woman and children were involved.

Responding officers encountered a man, woman, and children inside the bus depot. Upon seeing the officers, the man made threatening comments and fled with the woman into the parking ramp. Iowa City Police followed the man and woman into the ramp and attempted to establish communication with the man, who appeared to be armed and continued to make threatening...

Downtown Shuttle to temporarily cease operating during UI Winter Break

The free 4- Downtown Shuttle route will temporarily stop operation on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, for the University of Iowa winter break.
