As we begin our holiday decorating for the season, remember you can recycle holiday lights in the Iowa City and Coralville area.

Due to the pandemic, the Annual Human Rights Awards program has been cancelled. Instead this year’s honorees are being acknowledged without the traditional breakfast ceremony.

In lieu of the ceremony, the Iowa City Human Rights Commission is proud to recognize the following individuals and organizations that were selected for the 37th Annual Human Rights Awards.

Iowa City Police respond to two incidents of shots fired over weekend

On Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, at approximately 3:39 a.m., Iowa City Police were in the area of 3rd Avenue and I Street, after officers received reports of a group of people arguing and yelling about a gun. While on this call, officers heard multiple shots being fired to the east, followed by 911 calls reporting the same. There were no reports of injuries, property damage, and no additional information is available at that time.

On Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020, at approximately 5:18 p.m., Iowa City Police responded to the 200 block of Myrtle Avenue in Iowa City, for a report of shots fired....

Just in time for your holiday shopping needs, parking ramps throughout Downtown Iowa City will be free on Small Business Saturday, Saturday, November 28, 2020.

Though holiday shopping will look different due to COVID-19, Iowa City residents should take the time to support the small, locally-owned businesses that help keep our economy running and our City vibrant.

Governor makes additional funds available for COVID-19-impacted renters and homeowners

The Governor announced additional funds for the CARES Act to support Iowa renters and homeowners at-risk of eviction or foreclosure due to a COVID-19-related loss of income, on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020.

Downtown Shuttle service changes begin Thanksgiving week

There will be no Downtown Free Shuttle Service during Thanksgiving week, beginning Monday, Nov. 23, 2020.

Due to the University of Iowa moving to an online learning platform beginning Monday, November 30, 2020, the Downtown Free Shuttle will not operate until UI returns to regular session.

All other service will be provided per normal schedules and times.

As a reminder, face coverings are required and must be properly worn (covering nose and mouth) to ride Iowa City Transit.
