The City of Iowa City offers recycling programs via curbside collection and drop-off locations in Iowa City, with a wide variety of materials accepted for recycling. For nearly a decade, the Metropolitan Planning Organization of Johnson County (MPO) has sponsored the “Linda Severson Charity Challenge” in honor of Linda Severson who served as the MPO’s Human Services Coordinator from 1994-2011. As part of the challenge, each participating government entity (Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, University Heights, Tiffin, and Johnson County) selected a local charity for which staff and elected officials collected donations. On Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020, at approximately 7:48 p.m., Iowa City Police responded to the area of Muscatine and First avenues for a report of a robbery. Officers located the adult man, who stated he was in the parking lot of Kum & Go, located at 2303 Muscatine Ave., when a woman approached him asking for assistance getting into her nearby residence. According to the victim, the woman was in her twenties, dark-skinned, and was wearing a blue sweatshirt, and pink cloth mask covering her nose and mouth. On Friday, Nov. 27, 2020, at approximately noon, Iowa City Police responded to the 3000 block of East Court Street for multiple reports of shots being fired. While responding, additional calls came in reporting a second group of shots being fired nearby in the 400 block of South Scott Boulevard. Officers responded and spoke with witnesses who reported that a dark-skinned male had exited a tan sedan and fired multiple shots. Mayor delays water rate increase

On Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, the Mayor delayed the starting date for the planned water rate increase, from February 1, 2021, to July 1, 2021.

The water rate increase had originally been slated for July 1, 2020. Due to the economic hardships throughout the world brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the rate increase had been delayed by the Mayor two previous times: on May, 11, 2020, and on Sept. 11, 2020.
