Governor extends COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Declaration

On Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, the Governor extended the State's COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Declaration.

The Declaration extended most in-place health mitigation efforts through Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021.

In-place health mitigation steps include masks for indoor public spaces.

One change in the Governor's latest order includes lifting the limits of spectators for sporting and recreational gatherings, including for high school-sponsored events, but not college or professional sporting events.

The City of Iowa City has partnered with the University of Iowa and other local groups to create the 2021 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration of Human Rights.

The celebration is made up of several socially-distanced or virtual events, volunteer opportunities, and more that serve to unite the community in a way Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. strived for, but with full COVID-19 precautions taken.

Animal Services seeks assistance identifying dog’s owner following bite

On Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, Iowa City Animal Services received notification of a person who was bitten by a dog.

According to the information provided, the bite occurred in the afternoon on Jan. 6, while the victim was skiing in Hickory Hill Park. The dog that bit the person was described to be black and tan.

Crews to tow parts of Iowa, Jefferson, College, Washington, Prentiss, Clinton streets for snow plowing

The City of Iowa City will tow vehicles to allow plows to clear the entire width of the street beginning at 7 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2021.

During this time, on-street parking will be prohibited in posted areas. Vehicles that are not moved will be towed. Crews posted 'No Parking Due to Maintenance' signs at least 48-hours in advance in impacted areas.

UI students should pay special attention, as many park their vehicles on the street in these areas.

For income-eligible households, you may be able to receive up to six months of assistance for rent, mortgage, and/or utilities that are late or unpaid, up to $4,800. Crews will remove snow in Downtown Iowa City overnight Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, beginning at 2 a.m. Vehicles parked in tow-away zones will be removed.

Towing will impact Prentiss Street to Market Street, Madison Street to Gilbert Street, as well as N. Clinton Street from Market Street to Church Street. The parking in these areas are metered spots, which do not permit parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Follow all posted parking signs to prevent your vehicle from being towed.

Year-end CAFR financial report now available

Iowa City's annual year-end financial report, which provides information on actual income, incurred expenses, and financial position through the end of fiscal year 2020, is now available at icgov.org/budget . Compilation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) is required by the Iowa Code.

The 148-page report will be reviewed by the City Council and submitted to the City's bond holders.
