Party in the Park: July 30 at Creekside Park

The Johnson County Ukelele Social Club will bring their special brand of music to the next Party in the Park, scheduled Thursday, July 30 at Creekside Park, located at 1858 7th Avenue Court. Friends, family and neighbors are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to the park from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for live music, games, arts and craft projects, and ice cream. Neighbors will also be able to participate in a “Design Jam” with Backyard Abundance to review new concept designs for the park garden.

This is a no-fee event and is open to the public.

Road construction notice: Dubuque Street closure

Weather permitting, beginning on Monday, July 27, South Dubuque Street between Court Street and Prentiss Street will be closed to facilitate street reconstruction work associated with the Harrison Street Project. It is anticipated that this work will be completed and Dubuque Street will be reopened to traffic on Sept. 4, 2015.

Motorists are to take note of this construction work and to seek an alternate route during this time period. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling in all construction areas.

City Council listening posts

The second City Council listening post will be held at Lucky’s Market (café area), 1668 Sycamore Street, Wednesday, July 29, from 5:30-7:00 PM. Two Council Members will attend each listening post and those two Council members will report back to the entire Council. Members of the community are encouraged to stop by and meet with Council representatives to discuss any community issue. No formal agenda or presentation is planned.

Transit service changes due to RAGBRAI Saturday, July 25

Effective from 5:45 a.m. until approximately 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, Iowa City Transit routes will detour due to RAGBRAI. All Iowa City Transit routes will continue to service the downtown interchange located at the intersection of Clinton Street and Washington Street during the RAGBRAI events downtown. Stops that are closed due to RAGBRAI will have signs on them. Route changes and detours are listed below:

Team registration underway for Iowa City Girls Fall Softball League

Team registration has begun for the Iowa City Girls Fall Softball League and will continue through 5 p.m. on August 20. Four competitive divisions will be in play this fall: Under 10 years of age (or U10), U12, U14, and U16.

Cost is $400 per team, and participants must register as a team, not as individuals. Team rosters may be determined later. A maximum of eight teams will be allowed per division. To register, stop by the Information Desk at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center at 220 S. Gilbert Street.
