Update: The "Know Your Rights" program is being rescheduled due to predicted weather conditions on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016. A new date has not yet been set.

The Iowa City Human Rights Office is hosting a program aimed at informing the public of their rights and available resources regarding spousal and partner abuse. The program, “Know your Rights: Spousal and Partner Abuse Laws and Resources,” will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016 at the Social Hall in the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, located at 220 S. Gilbert Street.

Parks and Forestry launch tree inventory project

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016 the Iowa City Parks and Forestry Division will begin an inventory of the City's trees. A team of arborists from Plan-It Geo, a geo-technical firm from Colorado, will be out in neighborhoods gathering data on the City's urban forestry, as well as mapping and cataloging the tree species. This inventory will yield information and mapping tools to help the Parks and Forestry Division better manage and maintain Iowa City's urban forest.

Iowa City Leaf Vacuum Program ends for the 2016 season

Tuesday, December 6, 2016, will be the last official day of our leaf vacuum program. Leaf crews will be completing the portion of Route #4 that they were unable to finish on Saturday, December 3 and will be entering Route #3. We will attempt to collect as much as possible in Route #3 by the end of the work day. We appreciate your patience and understanding over the last two months.

Iowa River Trail will close until fall 2017 for work on Dubuque Street

The Iowa River Trail is expected to close early this week and will remain closed until next fall for ongoing work on the Iowa City Gateway Project , a flood mitigation effort on Dubuque Street.

The trail will be closed until the elevation of the southbound lanes of Dubuque Street has been completed, which will not be done until fall 2017.

Iowa City Leaf Vacuum Program – No Collection on Monday, December 5, 2016

Due to the snowfall on Sunday, there will be no leaf collection today, Monday December 5th. Bearing in mind the higher temperatures forecasted for today, we are anticipating there will be enough snow melt so that we will be able to resume the leaf collection program on Tuesday, December 6th.
